What was The Comenius Programme?

The Comenius programme is a European Union educational project. It concerns school-level education, and is part of the EU's Lifelong Learning Programme 2007–2013.

It aims "to help young people and educational staff better understand the range of European cultures, languages and values'

Its name derives from the 17th-century Czech educator John Amos Comenius.

The 'Food For Thought' Project

The ‘Food for Thought’ project started life in the staff room at Patcham House school about five years ago. After deciding that food was a love we shared, we invited schools in Italy, Spain and Turkey to partner with us and successfully applied for a Comenius grant from the EU and British Council.

This provided fantastic opportunities for everyone involved in school life to broaden their horizons – perhaps by cooking and eating something a little different or even travelling to Italy, Spain or Turkey and spending a week with our European partners. We had some fantastic times   and I know, for some, it was a life-changing event.

It was important to celebrate the project and provide a lasting reminder of our Comenius project, and so I produced a cookery book which contains many of the recipes shared and tasted during the project as well as being crammed full of photos of our visits and activities.  The book is available to buy on Lulu.com  (It is a not for profit book – the price you pay is for the publishing).

Bon appetite!
