What IS THE COURSE?

Here at Patcham House we know that cookery is one of the most important skills in life, and once mastered will be a skill that serves you your entire lifetime.

With the Jamie Oliver Home Cooking Skills Course students can choose from over 80 recipes all of which are healthy and nutritionally balanced. The recipes include photographs to help them to work independently and are followed up with worksheets that they record and keep in an ongoing folder.

On the course they learn essential knowledge and skills such as:

  • kitchen basics: what equipment you need and the best way to stock your store cupboard, fridge and freezer
  • food safety and hygiene: knife safety, fridge management and rotation
  • how to shop cleverly: shopping lists, seasonal food and planning ahead
  • Preparing ingredients and understanding confusing food labels.

Qualification Profile

The qualification consists of two single unit BTEC qualifications at Level 1 and Level 2
Both qualifications are fully funded on the QCF and contribute to Performance Points
