Staying in touch


Good home/school communication is crucial to pupils' well-being. See the other pages in this section for some of the methods used, but below are a few ground rules for us and for you.

Please keep your child's keyworker informed if there is something that you think they should know about eg changes at home. This can help us to understand your child's behaviour.

Keyworkers will ring/email home with good news, and also causes for concern.

We appreciate some conversations can be stressful and difficult, please speak politely to staff, as we will to you.

Please keep us informed of any changes to phone numbers/email addresses.

Email is a very good way to keep in direct contact with your child's keyworker, but of course if a matter is urgent please ring the school office. They will try to get hold of the keyworker, but if they are teaching or offsite they might not be able to get back to you immediately. The office team may be able to help, or to direct your call to another staff member. If you need to contact us urgently, please always phone.

As a school we undertake far more intensive levels of contact than at a mainstream school, which we hope benefits us, you, and most importantly your child, but please remember that staff have to balance time spent on communication with their teaching and other duties, and be patient while they are trying to respond/solve a problem!

We are always trying to improve communication, so feedback is valued.

Confidentiality, Safeguarding and Whistleblowing

Confidentiality will be respected, and information shared on a 'need to know' basis, however please see our Safeguarding Policy for guidance about circumstances where information disclosed may be shared with other agencies. Our Designated Person for Child Protection is Jill Moss. She can be contacted via the school office, simply tell the office staff that the matter is confidential and urgent. Miss Adam deputises in Mrs Moss's absence.
